Comment- Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods OP2

“Delete” by SID, Nanatsu no Taizai: Kamigami no Gekirin Opening 2 (Tie-up)

DISCLAIMER: No spoilers on this one. Just frustration.

What I can tell is that they have changed the sound profile of the entire anime. Although it’s arguably better than the previous tie-up, it still remains extremely underwhelming. Making an upgrade doesn’t mean that the bug has been fixed. Now, let me clarify. I really like SID. So much that due to FMA, I have come to appreciate SID’s work and their beautiful full-bodied sound. I don’t see what they have in common with this specific magic/fantasy/supernatural story packed with action. I don’t feel like the strategy “Let’s gather all the good names” has paid off. Ikimonogakari’s vocals were way more dynamic and with a lot more depth. [Ikimonogakari is the OP1 artist of Season 1]. And that’s not because of the quality of the singer’s voice; it’s merely because of the composition and the arrangement. Hence, what makes this OP so mono-dimensional is the arrangement. The noisy guitars produce a form of dynamism that doesn’t come through. It’s as if the targeted demographics of the entire production have shifted to a younger audience…

Is it me or do the characters seem different in this OP? It’s as if they have been redesigned. They kinda look more puffed up than before and it’s almost as if most of them have the same facial features.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t like SID. I especially enjoy listening to “Uso” as it’s one of my favorite songs to listen to while burning the midnight oil. But what was that? What kind of artistic guidance was that? It’s a continuing anime. It’s been out there since 2014. So if a 15-year-old teenager started watching it back then, he/she would be 21-ish right now. Does Kamigami no Gekirin OP2 have an impact on the young adult audience? I hardly believe so. I guess that once again, we’ll have to wait and see. What I have come to understand is that only 3 steps were needed to destroy The Seven Deadly Sins as we know it- for good.
1. Change the animation and the directing.
2. Choose the wrong artists for the tie-ups.
3. Misguide the artists and the composers to create songs that hardly work with the series at hand.

Hunter x Hunter is a really, really, really good shounen because it DIDN’T CHANGE THE OPENING THEME. Perhaps Nanatsu no Taizai should learn from its senpai [seniors]…

TL;DR (Just get on with it. It’s short…)

  • The director chose the worth of the artists’ names over the quality and guidance of the tie-ups.
  • The entire sound profile has changed.
  • I remain disappointed.
  • The songs are good, but do not work well with the anime or the character that has been built around it for more than 5 years.
